To arouse interest in traditional Chinese culture among young people, Olympian City is bringing back its popular cultural immersion programme under the Olympian Kids Imagineer initiative. Open to children aged six to eight, this time’s programme is themed on the Chinese god of money and wealth, a popular figure in Lunar New Year. To ensure the quality of the programme, Olympian City has invited various professional and experienced instructors to provide the young participants with an all-round experience of Chinese culture: Dr Siu Yan Ho, a lecturer from the Department of Chinese Language and Culture of Hong Kong Baptist University, will serve as the programme consultant and impart knowledge about traditional Chinese New Year customs; Wing Wing the clown, who holds the Hong Kong Clown Festival “King of Clowns” title and has over two decades of performing experience including as “God of Wealth”, will teach the young participants performing skills; and The Living Art will lead a workshop where the Kids Imagineers will write Lunar New Year couplets.
During the training, the participants will get to know more about the historical and cultural backgrounds, image and characteristics of the Chinese god of money and wealth, and learn to perform with the appropriate gestures, postures and manner of speaking. The participants can also apply separately to take part in the large-scale God of Wealth parade at Olympian City scheduled for 1 & 2 February 2025 to showcase what they have learned. During the parade, they can offer couplets that they have written in the training session to the public. The money raised during the parade will be donated to "Children's Cancer Foundation" in the name of Olympian Kids Imagineer to give blessings to those in need.
